This directory shows the story of the acceptance and ultimate withdrawal of the paper titled "Does God Command Birth Control?" by Daniel Berry and Karljuergen Feuerherm, that was to be published in the CCAR Journal, Reform Jewish Quarterly. In AcceptanceMessage.txt is the message from Paul Golomb, the EiC of the CCAR Journal, accepting our paper. In MarkedUpXBerryXandXFeuerherm.pdf is the marked up galley proof from the journal, showing that they had typeset it for inclusion. The mark up documents the mistakes we found and the required corrections. The most egregious of these errors was the copy editor's redoing of the Google searches and getting numbers different from what we had gotten WITHOUT changing the date of the search and the text about what percentage got each answer. In toPaulAboutProof.txt is the cover message to Paul that had MarkedUpXBerryXandXFeuerherm.pdf as an attachment, informing him that we wanted to see the corrections again before we would approve the publication of the article. We had been sent the proof with a month to reply. We sent it back 3.5 weeks early to have the time to do another round of proofing. Paul replied soon that the corrections were done. We asked to see the new version. He replied that he would wait until closer to the deadline. Paul sat on the proof until close to the deadline, at which time he told us that it was too late and the paper would go in as he had corrected it. In general, I do not trust any typesetter to do corrections correctly. So I told Paul that we would not give permission to publish unless we saw the latest version and unless we have the opportunity to have corrections done if necessary. Please see fromPaul.txt and fromPaul2.txt showing the correspondence in which Paul says that the correction had been done, and in which we said that we would withdraw the paper unless we could see the proof. The correspondence shows that in an attempt to prevent the withdrawal, Paul offered to correct the Google date, thus admitting that the article was NOT corrected after all. Finally, the correspondence shows Paul choosing withdrawal rather than allowing us to see the proof. The file Gen1-28paper.pdf contains a technical report with all the details that we could not put into the CCAR paper due to space limitations. This technical report, written in 2018, has some additional information that we did not know back on 2016 when the paper was to appear in the CCAR Journal. The technical report title was changed from "Does God Command Birth Control?" to "Does Genesis 1:28 Command Birth Control?"
